2008 blog resolutions

2008 January 2

As we curiously peek around the corner into 2008, I thought I’d take some time to jot down a few resolutions for this blog for this new year.  They are in no particular order and just a couple highlights.  I look forward to many new developments with the blog in 2008 but these are just a couple that I’d like to tackle early this year.  I will still be doing the types of things I’m already doing, so below are just a few things I would like to add or increase doing.

I’ve only been doing this blog for about 5 months (I’m a baby blog in the world of gaming blogs) but It’s been fun to meet other game lovers and get back into the gaming circles.  As I’ve stated before, this blog will focus more on party and casual games.  There are tons of quality strategy and Euro game blogs out there and I want to highlight the goodness of light strategy, party and casual games.

Resolutions :

1. I will be examining board games in the classroom more closely with short interviews with teachers I know that use games in the classroom and find out what works, what they like about games, why they use them and what types of games.  This is in response to my brief post about board games in the classroom.  I received alot of mail about this topic so apparently I’m not the only one interested in it  :)   If you are a teacher and use board games in the classroom feel free to e-mail me.

2. Depending on the amount of time I have free to devote to it, I want to open up a Facebook group to be another outlet for discussion and getting more casual gamers together.

3.  I also hope, again time dependant, to start up area physical game nights to play casual and party games and hopefully even play some games that are not released in stores yet that I can get my grubby hands on early, have some prizes, etc.  This blog is a great virtual extension of the Buffalo GameBuffs club but I’d love to have local bi-monthly game nights. People play party games and casual games with friends and family but tend not to explore some great light strategy, party and casual games that are not so readily found in mainstream stores.  So it would be great to introduce people to new games beyond what they normally play.  That’s what the blog is for but people meeting new players and actually playing new games is an even better way to get excited over new games.

I also have some ideas for starting Buffalo GameBuffs physical game nights in other states.  I’ll post more about it if it becomes a reality.

4.  I will be doing more behind the scenes type things with Buffalo Games.  They too are fans of the games I post about and have opened their doors to me to explore more about how a board game company operates, so I will be taking advatage of their opened doors in 2008 and showing you some interesting things  :)

5.  I will be delving further into my game night 101 articles.  I have not had much time to continue them but I have received mail from people that they have found them usefull and have more questions so this is something that is worthwhile for me to spend the time on.  Many visitors of this blog are newer to gaming and game nights so that is why I like doing these educational type posts. Just as I did with educational posts like my Alzheimer’s post about board games helping to prevent it.

So these are just a few things I hope and plan on exploring.  What are some things you’d like to see here?
